Julien Magnat, a French-born filmmaker, selected amongst nine up-and-coming horror filmmakers for Blumhouse and K-media’s inaugural Screamwriting Fellowship.
Blumhouse and K Period Media have announced the inaugural fellows for the “Screamwriting” program for emerging horror film and TV writers from underrepresented groups. The immersive year-round program, in partnership with the Sundance Institute, includes a week-long intensive for participants focused on developing their projects and honing their skills with the guidance and mentorship of industry leaders including Ryan Murphy, Kevin Williamson, Bridget Savage Cole, Damon Lindelof and Mike Flanagan.
Eight projects with nine participants were chosen from an applicant pool for this first cohort and the nine fellows will receive continued support throughout the year.
Amongst them is French-born, LA-based filmmaker Julien Magnat, who first attracted international attention when his short student film Chastity Blade received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Student short before graduating from the French National Film school. The other selected fellows include Geo Bradley, Chelsea Gonzalez, Kaushik Sampath, Mai and Kim Spurlock, Meg Swertlow, Myung Joh Wesner and Neil Creque Williams.
